Amazon Kindle Fire HD Review

Amazon Kindle Fire HD is the predecessor of Kindle Fire and it has gained a lot of applause from gadget lovers. Kindle Fire HD comes with Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 processor and PowerVR SGX540 graphics processor for HD performance. It is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models with 1GB RAM, which makes the performance super fast. There is no support for GSM, unlike Google Nexus 7 and iPad Mini.

If you are not satisfied with Kindle Fire HD 7 inch, then you can also choose the 8.9” inch Amazon Kindle Fire HD. It has sharper screen resolution, 1.5 GHz Dual Core processor and it will only cost you a little more. However, it will be cheaper than Apple iPad Mini. It matches with Google Nexus 7 in price and screen resolution, but it is far away from Apple’s strong design, amazing UI and build quality.

Resolution & Display

Kindle Fire HD has a unique interface filled with content, unlike other tablets. You will access list of recently accessed apps first, which is quite unique. It has IPS LCD capacitive touch screen with 16M colors that offers amazing HD graphics thanks to PowerVR SGX540 graphics processor. Kindle Fire HD has reasonable 216 ppi pixel density for 7.0 tablet and 254 ppi pixel density for 8.9 inch version. Both the versions use the same graphic processor, but 8.9” takes advantage for having a 1.5 dual core processor over 1.2.  Display is more appealing than iPad Mini, and Google Nexus 7, you may find difference in opinion in display quality. There is low resolution 1.3 Megapixel camera, which is only good for video calls.

Performance & Storage

Kindle Fire HD has plenty of fire power under the hood with 1.5 GHz Dual Core processor for 8.9” and 1.2 Ghz Dual Core processor for 7.0 inch version. It offers 1GB RAM and 16/32 GB of storage for saving your data. There is no external SD card slot for extra space, but you can use Amazon cloud space for storing your media. If you have Amazon premium account, then you will get the sweetened deal and getting access to amazing apps.

Amazon claims that it has 11 hours of battery timing on media usage, which is quite good. You can watch 3 movies back to back on full-screen brightness, thanks to the powerful battery. You can buy the Powertfast Adapter to charge your device for efficient use, which cost only $19.99 from Amazon store. There is no 3G connectivity, but you can use the powerful Wi-Fi to connect yourself to the world.

Build Quality

When we talk about build quality, Apple has set the standards so high that you cannot imagine of less than average. Kindle Fire HD has solid material that will make you happy and there is no crappy plastic or buttons. When you compare it with iPad Mini, it may not match up. However, it can compete with Samsung Tab 2.0 and Google Nexus 7 for build quality.
