Nokia XL is the new dual SIM Android based smart phone available in the market. We got our hands on Nokia XL for reviewing the product. The 5.0 inch Android based Nokia smart phone looks good and feels good. Our review is based on personal usage and experience with the cell phone.
Unboxing the Nokia XL makes us feel like that it’s a high-end smart phone. There is a lot of disappointment when you start the phone. It is an Android based smart phone based on Open Source project, but interface of Windows Phone.
The box has only a charger and the ear phone, we were expecting a data cable with the smart phone too. The interface of the customized Android OS looks same as Lumia based Windows phone on Nokia Lumia Series. You can install Go Launcher Ex application from 1 Mobile Market to make it look an Android based interface.
Design & Display
Nokia XL is just about right when it comes to the design. It is available in different bright colours that will attract attention of many. There is a rubber like coating on the back covers that will get dirty easily inside the pocket and may get peeled off too. The 5.0 inch is perfectly suited with the design of the phone that makes it look like an expensive smart phone. Design is similar to Lumia series Windows phone that is a plus point.
There is nothing to praise for 480 x 800 pixels 5.0 inch screen with 187 ppi that is lower than Nokia X in pixel density. However, the Nokia X platform 1.0 UI is perfectly designed to cover the screen resolution flaw. Touchscreen controls are correct, but it auto dial numbers on locked screen.
Power & Performance
Nokia XL is powered with Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon S4 Play Dual core 1Ghz Cortex A5 processor and 768 MB RAM. It is not the fastest processing smartphones because of limited ram, but the games runs smoothly on Nokia XL. Due to limited processor and RAM, you will feel your handset getting lost during heavy processing.
Storage & Space
Nokia XL storage space is enough to store applications and songs thanks to the micro SD card support up to 32GB. There is a 4GB internal storage is also available that is enough to install many applications.
Camera Performance
Camera performance is about average considering the 5 mega pixels shooter that produces 2592 x 1944 pixels image. The quality of a camera during night is worse even the LED flash doesn’t seem to make the photos look promising. It has ¼” sensor size. Panorama and face detection options.
Build Quality
Nokia always make high quality phones, but we are disappointed by the back cover. The back cover material starts to get dirty and rubber coating is peeling off. However, you can get new back covers from any Nokia store in different colours.

Summary
Nokia XL is definitely a bang for a buck, but there are issues that will annoy you. There is no Google services that means you are limited to certain apps. There is no Gmail, YouTube, Hangout, Google Plus or any other Google service. There is no way to synchronize your Gmail contacts. Moreover, Whats App is not working on Nokia XL so far. You will experience speed issues and messy touch screen that will sometimes dials numbers by itself. For a low end phone, it is not a bad idea to have one. However, users moving from high-end smartphones or using other Android based smartphones may get annoyed.
